The Sahel Scholars’ Programme is part of Sahel’s Corporate Shared Value (CSV) initiative which is focused on investing in the future of agriculture by partnering with reputable Universities in Nigeria and across Africa.
SASP educates and empowers undergraduate students through mentorship, hands-on experience, and scholarships. Through its annual conferences and training programs, it also raises awareness about the importance and value of agribusiness education and partners with universities to prepare students for work and leadership in the sector. Since its launch in 2017, the SASP has reached over 3,000 students in eight universities through conferences and admitted 10 scholars for internship programmes at Sahel offices.
In 2020 and 2021, owing to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, Sahel hosted virtual Sahel Scholars Conferences attracting over 500 student participants across the African continent. Sahel also launched the maiden edition of the Sahel Educators’ Conference in 2020, bringing together over a hundred stakeholders in academia and research in agriculture.
Through these efforts, Sahel is contributing to talent development in the sector by ensuring that youth are empowered and informed about the opportunities in agriculture and supporting them to build relevant skills required to launch successful careers in the sector
